CHRISTIAN R. WISSEL is Professor for Percussion at the University of Music and Theater in München and plays as a percussionist, drummer and timpanist with the State Philharmonic Orchestra in Nürnberg. His first approach to music was established when his father registered him with the local wind band at the day of his birth. By the age of 5, he had his first snare drum lessons and was socialised by playing together with other people from that point on. His focus in teaching is not only on performing emotionally and enthusiastically, but also on the interaction between people in ensembles. As an orchestra musician he has gained a lot of experience in different theater orchestras, such as Würzburg (2001 – 2004), Stuttgart (2004-2006) and the Dortmund Philharmonic Orchestra (2008). Since 2008 he works and lives in Nürnberg. Besides the orchestra work, he is involved in several chamber music and duo projects, mostly dealing with contemporary music. He hosted a series of duo concerts near Frankfurt called „Wissel’s World“ (2010-2019). Formerly, he also worked as a conductor for mostly amateur orchestras. Christian R. Wissel taught at the Vocational School for Music „Musication“ (2011 – 2015), he was the head of the percussion department at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz (2015-2019), and instructed the percussion students of the University of Music in Würzburg in orchestral studies (2018/2019). Since 2019, he is a Professor at the University of Music and Drama in München.
